WILLS LIFESTYLE INDIA FASHION WEEK - Grand Finale

New Delhi- March 16, 2008:
"The Wills Lifestyle grand finale, held today in the capital, was a magnificient tribute to India fashion, presented by ace designers Anamika Khanna and Ashish Soni."
Absolutely brilliant- This is a part of video I captured at the Grand Finale:

One-page comic

Thanks to French Information and Resource Centre and Amitabh kumar from SARAI who organised a workshop on promoting comic book culture and gave me an opportunity to doodle out the characters from my brain into a one page comic. Since these were conceptualised and illustrated in one day so making them a one page was necessary.
W.I.P. :
Finally finished:

The above one is on a biography of my animator buddy when he fell from his scooter and still has a scar on his face. One of the many childish imaginations he had that his scooter could fly higher than an air plane in the sky :D
And the below one is like journalism comic strip where we picked a newspaper and portrayed the news event in our comic illustrations. I chose the news which said 'I fired my first gunshot at 8' from Hindustan Times newspaper. A very sad event that school kid shoots his junior for not wishing him New Year. The most striking thing for me was to know that the school kid who got shot could not forgive his friend over the cricket match fight and refused to wish his friend new year was the reason he got shot. These are the doodles:

And the final illustration :

A big thanks to artist Parismita Singh who worked closely and gave strong crits and encouraging comments on our first comic strip :)
Whoops! been a long time since my last post :-l
I guess the blog was awaiting the next obvious update!
And here it is:
Being a Calvin fanatic, I realized who better than me to make Calvin in 3D :)

A new thing I added in my workflow while making Calvin in Maya is that when we dont have image planes for our model/character, we should go to photoshop and paintover WIP of our model before completing it. When we do a paintover we can easily see the proportions and pre-visualize them before finishing up with our model and then tweak it. For e.g. when i was working on Calvin's head, after creating a base/primary surface I took it to photoshop and painted over ear and hair just to make sure all the proportion are correct before even modeling it in 3D viewport!
I hope the next post comes soon with Hobbes and Calvins facials!!! ;)

Last but not the least...
Hobbes: What if the public doesn't like your work?
Calvin: They are not supposed to like it. This is avant-garde stuff! I'm criticizing the low brows who can't appreciate great art like this!
Calvin and Hobbes

A deep interest in character design and comic books has made me fall in love with Calvin and Hobbes. It was always good to read in newspaper comic strip section and recently i loved buying myself "A Calvin and Hobbes Treasury".
Sometimes I think the surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe is that none of it has tried to contact us.

I have plentyof common sense! I just choose to ignore it.

Update on Character Design:

Quick Bio: Character design is based on Walrus (found in Antartica region).
His name : Mr.Wills a.k.a. Walrus...Hez a marine biologist and is mutated in a project gone wrong. Hez silly, doesnt know nething abt robbery as in hw to do it...Oh did i tell u hez gona be a bank robberer for his living nw.Abt his clothes- wearin a skin tight shirt and tight gallace pants. His robbery would depend on his gadgets...Funny part can be that his gadgets ll just nt work and thru his luck & silly mistakes robbery ll be success!..Abt his appearance- Face- Walrus, with black eye mask; Body- fat, bulgy, short legs. He plans to do robbery in a vry stealthy manner.Char. is cute, funny silly cz hez stuck in a situation.

Hey!..
I ve worked in photoshop to develop this character. This is jus a previs state...plz rate it...and give ur comments to modify it...For me the design has turned out to be too simple...do u want me to add sm uniqueness in the character???or this looks simple and very easy to understand a s a char...U shud knw hez a bank robberer thatz y holding a gun and wearin a black mask on eyes...If u approve this then i will shw u further poses and ex-pressions...and if u want me to stylise it further lemme knw
